What is the Resource Charter?

Why do natural resources like oil or diamonds induce prosperity in some countries but stagnation in others?

Why are resource abundant countries some of the richest and some of the poorest countries in the world?

The purpose of the Resource Charter is to help governments and societies of resource-rich countries harness the profits from natural resources and maximise the benefits to citizens.

It is a new tool to reduce poverty; remarkably cheap, and potentially very effective. It creates new international standards and norms of behaviour to improve domestic investment, transparency and accountability, both for countries and for transnational corporates.

The draft launches on 4 February in Kuwait at the 10th
Global Development Conference on Natural Resources and Development.
